The meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has not started on completely calm tones.
Trump has maintained a negotiator's stance, saying he is "in the middle" on both Russia and Ukraine. "I want to get this thing done," Trump said.
Asked about NATO's eastern flank more broadly, Trump once again praised Poland as a model ally and said they are "very committed" to it.
But Zelensky continues to refuse to back down, urging Trump not to make "compromises with a murderer" and highlighting the importance of a military blockade to guarantee the durability of any peace agreement.
Trump went on to tell Zelensky that he was "gambling with World War III."
"I'm not aligned with anyone. I'm aligned with the United States of America and the good of the world," Trump said.
