Australia is shocked, hundreds of children are suspected of being abused in daycare centers

A 26-year-old man who worked for years at a Melbourne daycare center has been arrested. Authorities have asked 2,600 families to test their children for infectious diseases that may have been linked to the abuse.

A 26-year-old man has been charged in Australia with sexually abusing dozens and possibly hundreds of children.

Joshua Brown, a young man who worked at a Melbourne day care center between 2017 and 2025, was arrested two months ago, but the facts surrounding his indictment have only come to light in recent days, after health authorities asked parents of 1,200 children to test their children for infectious diseases that could be the result of abuse committed by the accused, La Repubblica reports.

The victims are between five months and two years old. Brown is currently accused of more than 70 incidents of sexual abuse against eight children, but the case could expand dramatically as a result of diagnostic tests now being recommended to families by authorities.

In total, 2,600 families have been contacted by health authorities. The investigation is focusing on what happened at the Creative Garden Early Learning Centre in Melbourne and also at another childcare centre in the city. The case was not prompted by a complaint from parents, but by the discovery of pornographic materials related to paedophilia in the possession of the accused.

Brown had no criminal record and had obtained a regular permit to work in the childcare sector, which has now of course been revoked.

The first trial session is scheduled for mid-September.
