
In Canada, eight people have been killed in a shooting at a school in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia. Among the victims is a woman who police say may be the shooter. Two other people were found dead in a nearby home, and authorities believe the incident may be related to the school shooting.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said at least 27 people were injured, including two who were airlifted to hospital with serious injuries. The town of Tumbler Ridge, which has a population of about 2,400, is located more than 1,000 kilometres north of Vancouver, near the Alberta border. Tumbler Ridge High School has 175 students in both junior and senior high.
"I am devastated by the horrific shooting that occurred today. My prayers and deepest condolences go out to the families and friends who have lost loved ones in this horrific act of violence," Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney wrote in a post on X.
Meanwhile, his office has announced that the prime minister will suspend planned trips to Halifax, Nova Scotia, where he was to announce the defense industrial strategy on Wednesday, and then to Munich, Germany, for the Security Conference.
