Mendi Qyra , the independent candidate for mayor of Struga, but supported by the ruling VMRO-VLEN coalition, has won the second round of local elections, defeating the candidate of the National Alliance for Integration (AKI), Arsim Dalipi.
According to the first unofficial results, Qyra has managed to maintain and deepen the advantage it had gained in the first round, securing the majority of votes in the city and surrounding villages.
His victory confirms the support that Mendi Qyra has enjoyed throughout the campaign, where he was presented as an independent candidate, but with support from the government as a joint candidate.
At the same time, Mendi Qyra's victory in Struga is seen as one of the surprises of these local elections, confirming the influence of independent candidacies on the Albanian political scene in North Macedonia.
With this result, Mendi Qyra will be the mayor of the Municipality of Struga for the period 2025-2029.
