The tree planted by Mother Teresa in Skopje is destroyed
Cut wood

It was planted by the saint Mother Teresa in 1980 in Skopje. Two days ago, the bad weather uprooted it, while today the employees of the Parks and Greens Public Enterprise tore it apart and destroyed it. The director of this enterprise, Angele Sootirovski, says that he is sorry for this, but that he was obliged because the wood was dead and could not be repaired.

"The wood is destroyed, the bad weather took its toll. The weather that overtook Skopje completely destroyed it. It is impossible to return. It is like trying to revive a dead person. We are really sorry for the wood and we wanted to return it, but there is really no way", declared the director of "NP Parks and Greenery", Angele Sotirovski for Klan Macedonia.

The employee who was in the field during the wood cutting also spoke.

"I was in the field when the wood left, it had fallen to the ground. This tree has short roots, it was very damaged, that's why we decided to cut it", declared Ivan Stojanov, employed

From the Institute of Spiritual and Cultural Heritage of Albanians in Skopje, they demand responsibility for why the wood that has historical and cultural importance was cut in that way. According to them, the fir tree should be returned to its previous state after it was uprooted by the bad weather, and not cut and sent to an unknown place.

"The company that has carried out these actions has committed a barbaric act against an object that belongs to the heritage of Mother Teresa, because it is a fir tree that was planted by her own hand in 1980, therefore ITSHKSH-Department for the heritage of Gonxhe Bojaxhiut-Mother Teresa urgently requests from the municipal and central authorities to start the procedures of taking responsibility for the perpetrators of this ugly act", declared from "NP Parks and greens".

A tree of this type will be planted in the same place in November or December.
