President Donald Trump has claimed several times that the US has spent $300-350 billion on aid to Ukraine.
But according to the BBC, data suggests that the real spending is much lower.
BBC Verify has found no evidence to support this claim. There are various estimates of US spending on or in relation to Ukraine, but none of them reach the figure claimed by Trump.
The Kiel Institute, a German think tank that tracks support for Ukraine, has calculated that the United States spent $119.7 billion on aid between January 2022 and December 2024.
The US Department of Defense has released a figure that includes all costs for Operation Atlantic Resolve, the US response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The sum is $182.8 billion, including military training in Europe and replenishing US defense reserves.
In both cases, these figures are significantly lower than those claimed by former President Trump.
Has the US spent $200 billion more than Europe?
The data suggests that Europe has spent more than the US when all aid is counted. And, as noted above, there is no evidence for the $300 billion figure.
The United States is the largest individual donor to Ukraine, but overall, Europe has provided more aid.
