INVESTIGATION by "The Guardian: How undercover agents destroyed dozens of
Infiltrated agents

At least 25 police officers who infiltrated political groups established relationships with ordinary people without revealing their secret identities.

"The Guardian" revealed how women and girls have been deceived by them for more than 3 decades.

4 of the infiltrated individuals have fathered children with these women.

A woman, identified by the pseudonym "Jacqui", said her life was destroyed when she accidentally discovered that her son's father was an undercover officer more than 20 years after their son was born.

The officer, Bob Lambert, abandoned them when the boy was a minor, lying to him that he needed to flee the country to escape arrest by the Police.

Helen Steel was in her 20s and deeply in love with a man who told her he "would like to spend the rest of his life" with her.

She and John Barker had just moved into a new apartment and would take long walks in the countryside, where they hoped to buy a cottage using the money he had inherited.

"I had never felt this intensity of love for someone before. Even though we had a few minor arguments... John and I were incredibly happy."

One day he surprised her by suggesting that he wanted children with her.

"I was a little surprised and asked him how many he had in mind," she says, to which he replied: Six!

But it was all a lie – even his name. In reality, he was an undercover police officer who had been sent to spy on her and her political allies. At the time, she was a social and environmental justice activist, and one of the defendants in the famous McLibel case.

1 Bob Lambert / 'Bob Robinson'

Bob Lambert had sexual relations with four women without telling them he was married and an enlisted officer.

He fathered a son with a woman known as Jacqui and abandoned them when the child was an infant.

More than two decades later, Jacqui discovered that he had been a police spy when, by chance, she read a story about him in the media.

Belinda Harvey had an 18-month relationship with Lambert without knowing his true identity.

2. Jim Boyling / 'Jim Sutton'

Jim Boyling had two children with an activist, Rosa, whom he met in 1999. He disappeared and reappeared in 2001, at which point he told her he had been an undercover officer.

3. 'Alan Bond'

Another undercover officer has accused "Alan Bond" of fathering a child with an activist.

The officer claimed that other colleagues also knew about the child. Bond denies the claim.

4. Mark Kennedy / 'Mark Stone'

It is not known how many women Kennedy cheated on sexually, the total is likely in the double digits.

Kennedy had a 6-year relationship with Lisa Jones, a social justice activist.

Jones discovered his true identity in 2010 through her detective work.

Another activist, Kate Wilson, was cheated on by Kennedy in a 2-year relationship.

Other women had intimate relationships that lasted up to 6 years with men who never revealed their true identities to them, but who were actually sent on a mission to spy on them and their friends.

They unknowingly shared their most intimate lives with spies.

When they discovered the truth, they were devastated and revealed that they were traumatized and unable to establish trusting intimate relationships with another person again.

The scale of the fraud was revealed after ITV began airing a series on what has become known as the "spy cops" scandal.

The series, produced in collaboration with The Guardian, tells how 5 women pieced together various pieces of information to expose the true identity of their ex-boyfriend.

Women searched archives and even traveled abroad to unmask men after they suddenly disappeared from their lives.

The relationship began in the 1970s and continued until 2010.

Many of the identities of police spies remain secret, meaning there are an unknown number of women who still don't know they've been scammed.

Officers typically spent four years posing as activists while infiltrating political groups, befriending people in power to gather information about their protests.

They routinely collected large amounts of information about the personal lives of political activists, such as their vacation plans, sexuality, and bank accounts.
