In Italy, controversy has erupted over the visit of children and teachers of a parish kindergarten 'Santa Maria delle Vittorie di Ponte della Priula' to the mosque of the Islamic cultural center Emanet in Susegana. Photos of young students praying, in front of an imam, have caused a storm of strong criticism.

"Images of children brought inside a mosque, forced to kneel in the direction of Mecca and pray in front of an imam, stir up the blood," declared Alberto Villanova, head of the Liga - Liga Veneta group in the regional council. While emphasizing the importance of interreligious dialogue, Giovanni Zorzi, the provincial secretary of the DP, does not hide his confusions: "Personally, I would have chosen more secular forms to address the right message of peace," he says.

On April 30, the group was received by Macedonian Imam Avnija Nurceski at the structure in Via Caduti.

"It was a really emotional experience - you can read it in a note posted on social media by the school. We took off our shoes, the teachers put on a veil and entered a large room where on the floor there was a large red carpet with some white stripes where it stands to pray. Heartfelt thanks to the imam who opened the doors of the mosque and welcomed us with respect, friendship and enthusiasm," the reaction reads.

Nurceski explained that the school had expressed a desire to get to know the Emanet center.

"All the families of the children involved had been informed about the initiative beforehand and had signed the exit authorization, welcoming it with great enthusiasm - they say - also because of the numerous cultural experiences they have already lived, such as sharing meals and reading fairy tales in different languages". "Muslim children when they go on a trip to school, they come and always go to visit all the churches and I think it is right so, also considering the great artistic and cultural heritage present in Italian churches," he stated.

This mosque is frequented by Albanians from North Macedonia, and Albanian imams from the Republic of North Macedonia often give lectures there.
