The first case of African swine fever is registered in Kosovo

The first case of African swine fever (ASF) has been confirmed in the municipality of Kllokot, in Kosovo. The Food and Veterinary Agency has confirmed the case.

"After the announcement of suspicions of the presence of the disease, the Food and Veterinary Agency with its teams went to the field for diagnostic research on the farm, taking samples and isolating the farm. The results of the samples have confirmed the presence of the MAD disease," the announcement states.

AUV has also announced that the pigs have been destroyed, the farm has been disinfected and the epidemiological research of the farms in the 3 km perimeter has started.

While adding that this disease is not transmitted to humans.

"According to the scientific findings so far, this disease is not transmitted to humans (this disease does not affect humans). But it is forbidden to slaughter animals that show any kind of clinical signs of the disease, so farmers must report to the competent authority AUV when there are symptoms in pigs. Hunters must also notify the AUV whenever they come across a dead boar in the woods. In order to isolate the spread of the disease", the announcement states.

AUV has announced that it has established the crisis headquarters which will be responsible for managing the situation.

Murtaja Afrikane e Derrave MAD është sëmundje ngjitëse virale që shkakton ethe hemorragjike tek derrat e butë dhe derrat egër. Përcjellët me letalitet të lartë deri në 100%. Sëmundja mund të shkaktojë dëme në ekonomitë familjare të fermerëve mbarështues të derrave. Sipas gjetjeve shkencore të deritanishme kjo sëmundje nuk transmetohet tek njeriu ( kjo sëmundje nuk i prek njerëzit). Por është e ndaluar therja e kafshëve qe tregojnë çfarëdo lloje shenje klinike të sëmundjes andaj fermerët duhet te raportojnë tek autoriteti kompetent AUV kur ka simptoma tek derrat. Po ashtu gjuetarët duhet të lajmërojnë AUV-në, në çdo raste kur hasin derr të ngordhur në pyje. Në mënyre qe të izolohet përhapja e sëmundjes.

Prevent other pigs from coming into contact with your pigs,

Keep pigs in good conditions,

Do not go to markets or other places where there are pigs.

Establish biosecurity measures on the farm

Place barriers at the entrance and exit of the farm,

Reduce and control people's logins,

Clean and disinfect objects, equipment, clothing and underwear of persons in contact with pigs,

If you notice signs of illness, notify the competent authority,

If you die, notify the authority who will help you with disposal,

In no case do not throw dead pigs in public spaces.
