Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will visit Belgrade on June 7, where he will hold a meeting with Serbian President Alexander Vucic.
Lavrov will have a series of meetings with the Serbian state leadership, where he is expected to discuss the war in Ukraine and Serbia's position in the face of the situation.
This is the first visit by a senior Russian official to Serbia since the start of the war and comes at a time that the EU is preparing the toughest sanctions package so far.
Serbia is the only country in Europe that has not joined anti-Russian sanctions and the EU has increased pressure on Belgrade.
Lavrov's visit will be an opportunity to clarify Moscow's position on Kosovo given recent statements by Russian President Vladimir Putin and other Russian officials, who made comparisons to the situation in Donbas.
But it will also be a good opportunity to clarify Serbia's position towards Russia. Currently, Serbia is the only European country (excluding Belarus), which can visit Russian officials and citizens without facing western sanctions.
