Netanyahu accepts cease-fire with Hezbollah, deal could come into force

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly agreed to a ceasefire deal with Hezbollah in Lebanon after weeks of negotiations with the US and other Western allies.

The deal could come into effect as early as Wednesday.

During the speech, Netanyahu said the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) had pushed Hezbollah back decades.

He said that "Hezbollah is no longer the same. We took them back decades. We have destroyed many missiles, we have killed many terrorists."

The US-led proposal includes removing the terrorist group from southern Lebanon and Israel withdrawing its forces from the country.

It came after Israel launched a day of airstrikes in Beirut as Israel's security cabinet met to discuss the proposal.

Hezbollah began attacking Israel on October 8 in solidarity with Hamas after its October 7 massacre. Its fighters have since fired at least 13,000 rockets and drones, killing 75 people.

Over the course of the conflict, Israel has launched thousands of airstrikes and attacks against Hezbollah across Lebanon, killing more than 3,500 people.
