The first contingent of 200 soldiers from Great Britain as part of the NATO mission has landed in Kosovo.
"Soldiers from the 1st Battalion of the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment are joining a contingent of 400 British troops already in Kosovo. The Romanian government announced on Tuesday (October 3) that it was also sending around 100 additional troops to reinforce KFOR," the announcement said.
According to NATO, this is a necessary step to ensure that it has enough troops to fulfill its mandate from the UN.
"This deployment is a prudent step to ensure that KFOR has the forces it needs to fulfill its UN mandate to maintain a secure environment and freedom of movement for all citizens of Kosovo. The deployment is based on a request by NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Europe and was approved by the Allies in the North Atlantic Council.
