A very strong storm hit Palma de Mallorca on the evening of Tuesday 11 June causing major flooding. The most critical situation has been reported at the airport of the large Balearic Islands where the bad weather has brought flooding to the runways and some areas of the airport.
Several flights were canceled and diverted to Ibiza or Barcelona (or suspended and rescheduled) while there were a number of delays to both arrivals and departures.
In videos circulating on Twitter, airport operators are seen facing great difficulties, with water up to their knees in 'pools' created after the torrential rain.
Damage was also caused to the terminal buildings. The storm has also affected Duty Free areas, as well as employee parking lots.
