The French President, Emmanuel Macron has unveiled his vision for the Europe of the future, a Europe of different speeds at the domestic level and the creation of a European political community as a vision for structuring the European continent to include countries like Ukraine, Georgia, or Moldova, but also the countries of the Western Balkans.

"Even if the European Union were to quickly grant Ukraine candidate status, the process of Ukraine's accession to the European Union would take many years and certainly many decades. "This is the truth," said the French president. According to Macron, to deny this means that the EU would have to lower its membership standards and completely rethink Europe, as well as the principles for which the European Union is urgent even for the EU member states themselves.

"Let's be clear. "The European Union, in terms of its level of integration and ambition, may not be the only short-term answer to the structuring of the European continent," Macron said.

According to the French president, a solution must be found in the name of stability, prosperity of the European Union without compromising the privacy built between EU member states.

"We should not say, as we have said so far, that the only answer is EU membership, but to open a historic debate at the height of the events we are experiencing on the organization of the European continent," he said. In this context, Emmanuel Macron referred to the concept of President François Mitterrand for the creation of a European confederation, to which Russia also joined, a concept that was very advanced for the era. But according to the French president, Mitterrand posed the right question: How to organize Europe at the political level?

Why does Macron include the Balkans in the political community?

The French president has reiterated his vision for the Western Balkans's EU membership. "There are countries in the Western Balkans that are committed to the path of membership and this process must continue with reforms. "These countries have a clear vocation," he said. But elaborating on the idea of creating a European political community, during a press conference in Strasbourg, President Macron said that the countries of the Western Balkans could be part of this community.

According to him, this proposal comes as the prospect of membership is remote, while what countries like those in the Western Balkans need are concrete issues that require quick solutions: "If we see, the problems that need to be solved are often those related to energy infrastructure, foreign investment, youth issues and transport. "I think that is the way to anchor these countries in Europe, to increase cooperation, without mixing all the agendas," he said. / Erisa Zykaj / Abc
