A 27-year-old doctor has become the first female Russian soldier to be killed in the Ukraine war.
Valentina Galatova, 27, a mother of one, died fighting in Mariupol, Ukraine last month, although her death was confirmed by Russian media only today.
She is also the 37th colonel to be killed since Russia invaded Ukraine in February.
Galatova was born in Siberia but moved to Voronezh, about 170 miles northwest of the young Ukrainian city of Kharkiv.

After the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2014, she moved to an area of Donetsk province occupied by pro-Moscow separatists along with her husband, where they gave birth to their only child a son who is now 8 years old.
Galatova studied psychology in Donetsk and graduated in January this year.
Her husband, who served in the armed forces of the so-called Donetsk People's Republic, died in cross-border fighting with Ukrainian forces last year.
After Putin invaded Ukraine in February this year, the 27-year-old volunteered for the armed forces and was sent to Ukraine.

Galatova was part of the Russian units that kept Mariupol under a brutal two-month siege that almost completely destroyed the city.
Thousands of civilians, including children, are thought to have died during the siege amid bombings indiscriminately by Russian forces, which also cut off water, food and heating causing some to die from dehydration, starvation and cold.
Her son, orphaned without mother and father, is returning to Voronezh so he can be raised by his grandmother.
