Slovak Prime Minister: Some Western politicians are looking for conflict between

Slovakia's Prime Minister, Robert Fico , has stated that some Western politicians are trying to incite a direct conflict between NATO and Russia, following what he calls the failure of the strategy to defeat Moscow through the war in Ukraine.

In a statement made on Saturday, Fico said that Europe is closer than ever to a broad escalation of the conflict.

"The failure of the strategy to destroy Russia through the war in Ukraine has led some Western politicians to believe that, if the goal cannot be achieved through the Ukrainian army and full support for it, then every effort should be made to cause a conflict between NATO and Russia," Fico said.

The Slovak Prime Minister, who has opposed sending military aid from Bratislava to Ukraine, stated that the war is not a conflict of Slovakia nor of NATO.

"Some supporters of the war within NATO are trying, at all costs, to turn this war into a conflict between Russia and NATO," he said.

Fico's statements come at a time when European countries have raised concerns about hybrid activities and threats to their infrastructure.

French President Emmanuel Macron said on Friday that Russia is intensifying its campaign of hybrid attacks against Europe.

He also mentioned a drone incident at Leipzig Airport in Germany in August, which German authorities have concluded was orchestrated by Moscow.

Russia has consistently denied various accusations by Western countries of interference or hybrid operations in Europe.
