The Israeli Armed Forces (IDF) announced today that it has killed the head of Hezbollah's intelligence network in Syria in an airstrike on the outskirts of Damascus, where the pro-Iranian movement maintains a significant presence.

Israel "launched an airstrike and struck targets related to Hezbollah's intelligence headquarters," the IDF statement said, adding that "Mahmoud Mohamed Sahin, the head of Hezbollah's Syrian intelligence network, was killed" in the targeted strike in the suburb of the Syrian capital.

Israel has launched hundreds of airstrikes in Syria since the neighboring country's civil war broke out 13 years ago, mostly targeting Iran-backed forces and Syrian army positions.

The Israelis rarely comment on the attacks in Syria, but have repeatedly stressed that they will not allow Iran, which backs the government of President Bashar al-Assad, to increase its presence in the country.
