In most countries of the world, elections usually take place during the weekend and in different seasons of the year. But in the United States, presidential elections every four years and congressional elections every two years. They are always held on Tuesday, or the day after the first Monday in November.

This tradition began in 1845. The reason is that 19th century Americans, many of whom were farmers, were too busy with agricultural work.

In November, the work in the fields was a little easier, because the produce was harvested before the frosts started.

Since Sundays were reserved for visits to churches, Tuesday remained the most convenient day because many people needed a day to go to the polling stations by horse or cart.

While on Wednesday the farmers had to go to the market to sell their produce.
