Israel eliminates new Hamas chief

Israel has said it killed the new commander of Hamas' military wing, Mohammed Odeh, during an airstrike in Gaza City on Tuesday.

According to local health authorities and witnesses, at least three Palestinians were killed and dozens more were injured when a residential building was hit in one of the city's busiest shopping areas.

The Israeli military and the Shin Bet security service said the attack was the result of a months-long intelligence operation to track the movements of Odeh and his associates.

The building hit was located in the city center and was targeted with several missiles almost simultaneously, causing extensive damage and panic among residents.

According to witnesses, the area was filled with citizens preparing for the Eid holiday when the attack occurred.

For its part, Israel labeled Odeh as one of the "architects of the October 7 massacre," accusing him of involvement in killings and kidnappings during the attack that sparked the war in Gaza.

This attack comes despite the ceasefire announced in October, which continues to be fragile and frequently violated by both sides.

According to health authorities in Hamas-controlled Gaza, more than 900 people have been killed during the ceasefire period, while Israel says its operations target Hamas members and its military infrastructure.

The conflict in Gaza has already caused tens of thousands of casualties and massive population displacement, while negotiations on the next phases of the peace plan remain deadlocked.
