Former First Minister alex salmond died suddenly while speaking at an event in North Macedonia.

The 69-year-old felt unwell and collapsed during his speech. Doctors later determined Salmond's death.

Alex Salmond led Scotland to the brink of independence. He has held the position of First Minister of Scotland, a post he associates with that of prime minister since 2007.

He resigned from office after failing to achieve Scottish independence in the referendum held in 2014.

The prime minister of great britain, Keir Starmer, has expressed condolences for his death, who has been considered a "monumental figure" for more than 30 years.
