Two actors have been seriously injured after a balcony fell during a production of Romeo and Juliet in Hungary.
28-year-old Julia Szasz, who plays Juliet, and 60-year-old Otto Lajos Horvath, who plays her father, Lord Capulet, are in a serious but stable condition in hospital after the freak accident on Friday night.
Paramedics treated the actor and actress after they fell from a height during the second act of the play in the capital, Budapest.
Their injuries were so severe that Szasz and Horvath immediately entered the operating room. The exact details of the incident are not disclosed.
The director of the National Theater Attila Vidnyanszky resigned on Monday morning, "accepting his responsibility... as a result of the accident".

The Hungarian Minister of Culture, Janos Csak, has rejected rumors that he was the one who fired the director.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the National Theater said that Vidnyanszky and Csak visited the actors at Semmelweis University's Traumatology Clinic.
"According to the doctors, the condition of the two injured artists, Jalia Szasz and Otto Lajos Horvath, is improving".
In a statement on Friday, November 10, Vidnyanszky said: "... Our performance of Romeo and Juliet on Friday was interrupted during the second act due to the accident of Julia Szasz and Otto Lajos Horvath."
"The paramedics who arrived in a short time provided professional care to the two artists on the spot and then transported them to the hospital. They are in good condition. For the sake of peace of mind, we ask the press staff not to contact us with their questions for the time being", he said.
