The son of Equatorial Guinea's leader never misses an opportunity to brag about his $75,000-a-night hotel stays in New York as some 70 percent of his country's population languish in poverty on less than $2 a day.

Teodoro 'Teddy' Obiang , who is also the vice president of the country, recently published on the network photos of himself dressed in a blue suit, looking out of the terrace of his hotel in New York.

The 55-year-old is accused of embezzling $100m from his country's wealth to satisfy his thirst for luxury, staying in a five-room suite at the Mark Penthouse Hotel in New York.

Obiang, the son of the country's 81-year-old dictator Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, was in New York with other UN Assembly leaders to "appeal for more aid to Africa".

After arriving there by private plane, in his speech on September 22, he said: "Africa deserves the priority of your attention and development financing initiatives."

While in his comments on Instagram, he talks about completely different things, such as his collection of sports cars or exotic trips, so many users called him "to return to his country where people suffer in poverty".

Deputy the president has also found himself at the center of scandals involving torture, corruption and massive theft of the country's funds.

Teodoro Nguema's father was listed as one of the richest heads of state in the world in 2006, with a fortune of around $600mln.

Equatorial Guinea used to be a major exporter of cocoa, but now oil remains the main financial staple since Obiang took power in a coup in 1979.

His son is reported to have already bought a collection of cars such as the Bugatti Veyron 16.4, worth $1 million, the Maserati MC12, worth £670,000. The daily Bild writes that between 2004 and 2006, Obiang spent 41.5 million euros on his lifestyle, which is more than the education budget of his entire country in one year.

In 2011, it accused him of spending $100m of state money on luxury items including a private jet, a Malibu villa and an extensive collection of Michael Jackson memorabilia.

Responding to accusations of corruption in an interview, he said: " I have been lucky in business and I like to live well "./ DailyMail
