Erdogan: Wheat deals that isolate Russia unsustainable

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has warned against isolating Russia in discussions of creating a new version of a deal to allow the export of Ukrainian wheat.

"A process that excludes Russia on the issue of wheat is unlikely to be sustainable," Erdogan told reporters after the G20 summit in New Delhi.

He was referring to efforts to revive the deal allowing the safe passage of Ukrainian wheat across the Black Sea that Russia canceled, seeking sanctions relief to enable exports of its goods.

The original deal was brokered by the UN and Turkey last summer.

Fears are growing that if it is not renewed, it could deepen the global food crisis.

"Turkey is continuing its efforts to mediate," Erdogan said, adding that "a resumption was quite possible."
