The third Kurti-Abdixhiku meeting also ends without an agreement

The third meeting between the leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, and the leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, has also ended without an agreement. The meeting was not announced in advance. Abdixhiku had denied that he would meet Kurti on Wednesday. However, the meeting took place.

After the meeting, Kurti briefly stated that there is no new news, since the meeting concluded today without a political agreement.

"We have no news until we have an agreement. When we reach an agreement, we will be able to inform you," Kurti said briefly.

Meanwhile, Abdixhiku left the Kosovo Assembly – where the third meeting was held – without making any statements to the media.

Kurti and Abdixhiku met after the meeting of the LDK Parliamentary Group.

The second meeting between the leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, and the leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, which lasted about three hours, also ended without any political agreement.

Although there was no political agreement, the two leaders announced the continuation of talks on the formation of the country's new institutions, even though August 6 has been set as the day of the constitution of the Kosovo Assembly.

"We do not have a political agreement. We discussed different approaches, the opportunities that lie ahead. We need a political agreement that respects the election result, does not replace it, but also transforms it into a contribution to institutional stability and the functioning of the Republic," Kurti said.

He added that the time for reaching an agreement has been shortened and without it, the country risks going to elections again.

Abdixhiku also announced his intention to run for election.

"If we do nothing, the only guaranteed scenario is new elections," Abdixhiku declared.

According to him, the LDK seeks a comprehensive agreement and democratic balance within institutions.

Both Kurti and Abdixhiku stated that no specific names for the president were discussed at the meeting, but Kurti insisted on a consensual president.

According to him, the country's new president should not represent the fourth pole of power, should not be "involved in daily controversies."

"We are interested and ready to cooperate with the LDK, as far as the president is concerned, our position is that he should not be part of the political power, but of the representation of the Republic. I cannot bring a concrete name, because he should be consensual, inclusive, not be from the LVV," Kurti said.

On the other hand, for Abdixhiku, the president is whoever has 80 votes in the box.

Abdixhiku said that they agreed that if an agreement is not reached by the constitutive session on August 6, talks could continue, as he stated that his party is not interested in the Speaker of the Assembly.
