Borrell meets with Palestinian PM: Israel must stop violence in West Bank

The EU High Representative Josep Borrell held a meeting with Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh in Ramallah, West Bank.

Borrell pointed out the many incidents in the West Bank, and that 421 Palestinians have been killed there since the beginning of this year.

"We must not forget the situation on the West Coast. Since the beginning of the year, 421 Palestinians have been killed, as of the beginning of October there are 202. The number of communities expelled from their homes has increased and today there are over 150 illegal colonies," Borrell said.

Borrell also underlined that the EU had asked Israel to prevent violence in the West Bank as far as they were concerned.

"We have asked the Israeli authorities to deal with this issue, at the highest level, to prevent an outbreak of violence in the West Bank. The dramatic events that have unfolded since October 7 have highlighted the Palestinian issue. Now there is no choice but to take it very seriously.

The framework that I think we should work on. "We can summarize three points, which are not the forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza, no territorial change by Israel, no separation of Gaza from the overall Palestinian issue," he added.
