'Ring of Fire', powerful 7.2 magnitude earthquake in the Philippines

A powerful underwater earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 has struck the Philippines. The tremor, which lasted several seconds, occurred about 26 kilometers above Buria in the south of the archipelago, the US Geological Survey said.

Experts said a tsunami was not expected, but residents were advised to be prepared for aftershocks and damage. So far, no casualties have been reported as a result of this earthquake. Meanwhile, it is learned that the passengers at an airport near the epicenter were also evacuated to the runway.

The Philippines lies on the "Ring of Fire," a belt of volcanoes encircling the earthquake-prone Pacific Ocean.
