Israeli Minister Amichai Eliyahu has stated that his country does not rule out the possibility of a nuclear strike on Gaza.

His stance sparked outrage throughout the Israeli government, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu decided to suspend him indefinitely.

Asked in an interview on Sunday whether Israel could drop an atomic bomb on the Palestinian enclave, the minister, who is a member of the far-right Otzma Yehudi party, replied that "that is a possibility".

Eliyahu also spoke out against helping residents of the enclave, which has been under Israeli siege for several weeks now, arguing that "we would not hand over humanitarian aid to the Nazis" and that "there is no such thing as civilians not involved in Gaza.”

Shortly after the controversial comments, Netanyahu announced that the minister had been suspended from all government meetings.

Writing in X, his office quoted him as saying that "Eliyahu's statements are not based on reality" and that Israel is "acting in accordance with the highest standards of international law to avoid harming innocents."
