The latest discovery by NASA has left even the scientists themselves speechless. A man-made structure about 30 meters below the surface of the ice on the island of Greenland, which is located in the northern part of the American continent. Through advanced radar technology, the military base called "Camp Century" has been discovered, part of a secret project of the Americans during the Cold War.
Its construction began in 1959 and was aimed at a kind of defense in case of a nuclear attack by the Soviet Union (Russia today).
"Camp Century" consists of a network of tunnels of about 4828 km and was created with the aim of serving as a strategic point during the conflict.
As part of the military operation, a total of 21 tunnels, a shop, a small church and several other objects were built. It is said that over 200 people worked for it, including the most famous engineers of that time in the USA.
The Americans kept the purpose of building this base a secret, telling the Danish government at the time that they were conducting scientific research. This is because the island of Greenland is an autonomous territory of Denmark. The true motives were first exposed in 1997.
According to experts, this base was 'abandoned' in 1967. Over the years, snow and ice accumulated on it, creating a layer of 30 meters.

Science says that in addition to historical value, this discovery serves to better understand the phenomenon of rapid climate change.
But on the other hand, this base poses a risk to the environment with weapons, fuel and many other objects buried in the ground.
