Edi Rama during his time in Paris

Three and a half decades ago, Albanians took the mountains and the seas to get away from their eyes and feet, and throughout this period the vast majority has tried at least once life as an immigrant, either illegal or illegal.

Many were welcomed by Italy, which is the truth in a good part of it opened the doors for the Albanians who were mostly in body clothes. But, three and a half decades ago, when Albanians were studying embassies, mountains and seas with empty stomachs, few thought that a time would come when Albania would become a haven for illegal immigrants, even indirectly.

The field implementation of the agreement between Italy and Albania on immigrant processing centers began on Wednesday, an agreement that, more than between the two countries, was considered a bit personal between Giorgia Meloni and Edi Rama.

The latter, who has tried emigration at his own expense in France, has defended the deal in the face of criticism on the grounds that Albania owes Italy a debt since the early 90s. But, as the first hours of the agreement are showing, the Albanians with the Italian 'enclave' created in Shengjin are serving the personal agendas of Giorgia Meloni more than Italy.

The latter wins a decided bet with Brussels for an idea with which he received quite a few votes in the elections that declared him the winner, while Edi Rama consolidates the personal support of Rome in Brussels, since Italian support for the integration of Albania has fortunately not wavered for not a second, regardless of who was in power in Tirana.

This is one reason why the unusual agreement cannot be considered a model of success, at least not until a few months have passed and its practical implementation can be seen on the ground. If the model turns out to be successful, it would not be surprising that for the sake of the shelter that France gave to Edi Rama when he was an immigrant, Albania accepts another French camp, considering that in Brussels even the President of the EC guides the member countries to see the possibilities of opening these camps in the countries of the Western Balkans.

In this case, Albania could turn into a peripheral ghetto of the European Union, again under the argument that we owe it. But, what is the truth, Albanians do not owe anything to anyone, because with this logic, the USA, where a century ago thousands of Italians found refuge to escape poverty and Mussolini's regime, could have the right to wanted a Guantanamo, for example in Sicily.
