US President Donald Trump has intensified his criticism of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, suggesting that Ukraine needs a new leader to end its war with Russia.
During a statement to reporters, Trump accused Zelensky of avoiding the possibility of reaching an agreement and not seizing opportunities to end the conflict.
"I suggest that Ukraine have a new leader who can make a deal. For some reason, Zelensky never makes deals," Trump declared.
The US president also criticized Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries, claiming they have affected energy markets and brought economic consequences for American farmers.
Trump's statements come at a time of heightened tensions between Washington and Kiev, as debates continue over the strategy to be followed to end the war.
His comments are expected to provoke strong reactions, as they directly affect the Ukrainian leadership and Zelensky's role in potential peace negotiations.
