At least in 27 municipalities of the country, interventions were made in the water supply and sewerage network during the last year with a total of 9.8 billion lek or about 98 million euros.

The Performance Report of the Water Regulatory Body estimates that there were at least 37 investments reported by the National Water and Sewerage Agency planned and in the process of implementation.

"AKUK reports that out of the total planned investments that are in process, only during the exercise year 2023, a total of 37 investments with a value of ALL 9.8 billion have been completed, which are spread over 29 municipalities of the country," the report says.

"The total planned value of investments in the UK sector according to table no. 9 below for the year 2023 was 21,367,246,000 ALL (or about 194.3 million Euros), of which 13,938,972 ALL are planned for investment by the Albanian Government (about 65% of total) and 7,428,274 ALL from foreign donors (about 35%).

The fact is emphasized that in the water supply and sewerage sector, many projects are financed, mainly in rural areas, also by the other implementing agency, the Albanian Development Fund (FSHZH), which are not the subject of this report," underlines ERRU.

The same document brings to attention that foreign financing has decreased significantly during the year being revised due to delayed tendering procedures.

"It is noted that during the year there was a review of funds with foreign financing from 7.37 billion to 2 billion ALL. This is as a result of delays in the progress of investments due to the tendering procedures which have been delayed in time.

Referring to the values in the table, it results that 88% of the investments planned for the year 2023 have been financed in the sector. It is also noted that the investments in the sector for the year 2023 continue to be focused in the direction of water supply and not of sewage," the report states.
