The government has taken strict measures to protect minors from the consumption and addiction of tobacco products. The new law published in the Official Gazette, which enters into force at the beginning of September, stipulates that the sale or supply for trading purposes of tobacco products, cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, shishas/hookahs to persons under the age of 18 is prohibited.
It is also prohibited to offer these products for free or to sell them with an offer to any person under the age of 18. According to the law, all points of sale must be equipped with a visible and legible sign, which reads: "The sale of tobacco products, electronic cigarettes, shishas/hookahs to persons under 18 years of age is prohibited."
If retail or wholesale entities do not comply with this obligation, then according to the law, they will be fined up to 200,000 ALL and their tobacco products, cigarettes, and electronic cigarettes will be confiscated. The administrative measure in this case has been doubled compared to the existing law. Whereas if these products are marketed to persons under 15 years of age, the amount of the fine is 400,000 ALL.
On the other hand, the law stipulates that the sale of tobacco products, electronic cigarettes, shishas/hookahs in health institutions is prohibited; in educational institutions; in sports institutions; in automatic vending machines; through self-service; on the street by street vendors; through the postal service.
In this case, the entities will be fined 5 times higher, in the amount of 500,000 when this violation is repeated.
The law also aims to prohibit direct and indirect advertising of tobacco products, in whatever form it may be, as well as through media channels or social networks where, in this case, the administrative measures are very high.
