As the whole world is facing the energy crisis, Konfindustria has requested the government to take measures to put the Vlora Thermal Power Plant into working order.
Ironically, a measure by the government to bring in energy leased ships from private American companies saying they come from Bangladesh, Konfindustria writes that the production of electricity from the Vlora TPP with an installed capacity of 100 MW would save Albanians over 70 million dollar cost.
According to Konfindustria, it is unacceptable that for 11 years the Vlora TPP has been out of operation for a technical defect that would cost 10 times less than the amount that will be given to the ships for electricity.
There was no lack of criticism for Prime Minister Rama who did not take any measures to return to work, even though the energy crisis was warned.
"Confindustria asks the government, under the conditions of the announced energy crisis, to take measures to put the Vlora TEC into working order as soon as possible. Also, it is important to understand why and who are the public agencies and individuals responsible for not putting it into operation until now.
The production of electricity from the TEC-Vlorës with an installed capacity of close to 100 MGw would completely avoid the bringing of generator ships from Bangladesh, which will cost the Albanian taxpayers over 70 million US dollars, in addition to the great environmental damage accompanying them.
"Keeping the TEC in "conservation" and not in working condition costs more than $1 million/year to the budget of KESH.sha. leading directly to the additional increase in the price of electricity for Albanian businesses and citizens.
Confindustria estimates that it is unacceptable and inexplicable that for more than 11 years the Vlora Thermal Power Plant has been left out of operation and does not produce electricity due to a technical problem. The technical defect cost less than US$7 million, or 10 times less than the rent to be paid to the Bangladeshi ships.
"No effort was made to return the Vlora TPP to working condition even after the announcement by Prime Minister Rama of the state of energy crisis in 2021 and beyond," writes Konfindustria.
We remind you that the government has made the decision to lease 2 ships from a private American company which will be located in the Triport of Vlora and will produce electricity. The electricity agreement signed with the United States of America is a 2-year project.
