Germany urgently needs skilled workers. And so, the German Bundestag passed a new law on Friday that encourages immigrants from outside the European Union to target Germany for work.

"This bill ensures prosperity in Germany. It is unacceptable that you have to fill out 17 different forms to bring a new employee to the country," said Interior Minister Faeser during the presentation of the law in parliament.

The opposition Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and Christian Social Union (CSU) welcomed some of the government's proposals, but criticized plans to lower qualification barriers for foreign workers.

According to Deutsche Welle, the 100-page bill can be summed up in one sentence: "Everyone gets in, but no one gets kicked out."

An innovation of the law is a new opportunity card and the associated points system, which allows foreigners who do not yet have a fixed job to go to Germany for a year to find work. A prerequisite for obtaining the card will be a professional qualification or a university degree.
