Putin's strategic suicide

After a long military dislocation, the Russian military launched an effort to invade Ukraine on some sides. Putin thought he would invade Kiev and end the war quickly when he ordered the Russian military to carry out the operation codenamed "Lightning."

However, with the resistance of the Ukrainian army, the Ukrainian people opposed to president Vladimir Zelenskiy's occupation and political leadership, Russia expects a long and destructive process. Western countries' decisive position in the bloc is leading Russia to a major strategic default.

Russian President Vladimir Putin took a big bet on behalf of his country by invading Ukraine, and things don't seem to be going so well right now. When Putin ordered the Russian military to "Operation Lightning", he acted on the assumption that Kiev would be captured in a short time, that the political will led by Zelenskiy would be destroyed, that the command and control structure would collapse, the Resistance of the Ukrainian army would end and that under these circumstances the Ukrainian people would accept the new power russia would build in Kiev.

However, since the beginning of the war, the Russian army's "Operation Lightning" has failed. The military initiative, designed as a special forces operation to capture Kiev and not a conventional invasion attempt, was ineffective with Ukrainian army counterattacks. Thus, both Ukraine's political leadership and the command and control structure were not disbanded, but instead strengthened and showed great will.

After the failure of Operation Lightning, it became clear that Russia was not working sufficiently for Plan B. The Russian military campaign, which turned into a conventional invasion, faced strong resistance from both the southern and eastern axis of the country. The progress of forces in the north advancing towards Kiev appears to be very slow.

Russia's inability to fully maintain air dominance over Ukraine in general and the inability to provide close air support to armoured units in particular, including armed drones, poor command and control structure, supply and overall logistical problems, led to slow progress and heavy russian military losses. Russian infantry morale also appears to be low.

Of course, it should be noted that the Ukrainian military's integrated resistance with the people, elements of asymmetric power and especially the military strategy based on Turkish TB2 armed drones along with antitank weapons are effective.

While hundreds of Russian soldiers were killed in a few days of war, in front of us we have a Russian army, whose troops have fallen captive. In front of us we have a scattered army, whose armoured troops fell in ambush giving heavy casualties.

While things are not going well on the ground, the fact that Russia is isolated from the rest of the world with very heavy sanctions from Western countries, which act as a bloc, are also signs of how Ukraine's invasion of Russia will end. In terms of military, economic and political consequences, Putin's bet in Ukraine will result in severe defeat and become a strategic suicide for him and his country. All the signs tell us that fact.
