Today, Albania is behind Serbia and Montenegro on the road to the EU! It is after Serbia that started 4 wars in the region and after Montenegro that was declared an independent country only in 2006!

Today we beg and pray that they separate us from Macedonia to open the negotiations, while today we could have closed them. Today we are ready to shed tears, but it is too late.

Albania would be an EU member state today, if official Tirana and the opposition of the time had listened to the pleading prayers, 12 years ago, in 2010, of the Director for Enlargement, Stafano Sannino. Mr. Sannino begged the political leaders in Tirana to agree as soon as there was no time! They should have hurried that with the end of the Commission's mandate, perhaps the new commission would not have enlargement on its agenda at all. And so it happened. With the accession of Croatia in 2013, the new commission decided to give a break to enlargement! To keep alive in the region the aspiration for EU membership, the "Berlin process" started, while Montenegro and Serbia opened negotiations and today are the end of the negotiation chapters.

Mr. Sannino prayed to the political leaders of the time to find common ground, to adopt by consensus the required laws, and for the country to open negotiations immediately. In front of the Prime Minister's building, at that time, an electronic board was placed with the sentence: Three equal laws with Europe! But the big problem, at that time, was "the issue of the chairman of the Fier Regional Council". It was a life or death problem for the Albanian democracy. With infantile perseverance and frivolity we kicked the open door of the EU. Not for the first time.

After 12 years we are where we were in 2009, in the request for opening negotiations.

Në fakt, ndryshe nga Mali i Zi dhe Serbia që i kanë hapur njëherë negociatat, ne i kemi hapur disa herë negociatat. Kemi dekoruar edhe ambasadorë, më 2018. Ne madje i kemi bërë të gjitha detyrat, i kemi plotësuar të gjitha kushtet, por fajin e kanë vendet e Këshillit. Nëse ka një adresë faji, adresa është në Tiranë.

Për një kapriço kanë ikur më shumë se një dekadë!

Përvoja e anëtarësimit të Sllovenisë dhe Kroacisë tregon se nga hapja te mbyllja e kapitujve janë më pak se 10 vjet.

Po të kishim dëgjuar lutjet e drejtorit të zgjerimit të kohës Stefano Sannino, sot do të ishim anëtarë të BE-së. Dhe në atë kohë që na luteshin për të hapur negociatat, nuk e kishim të lidhur fatin as me Maqedoninë dhe sigurisht lufta në Ukrainë nuk kishte filluar.

Albania, which has not started any war in the region, is today behind Serbia! We have fought with each other and we have been shown to be great masters at shooting ourselves in the foot!

It does not matter today whether the negotiations open in June, or in any other June or December. The damage done in 2010 is incalculable. The last decade wasted is not coming back!

Today, when journalists are reprimanded, in Tirana, with strong questions to the enlargement commissioner, it is funny. To cry was in 2010. But the only one who cried at the time (but did not touch anyone) was the director for expansion Stefano Sannino!
