"The camel cannot see its own hump" - Greek Proverb

The ban, and later the arrest of the candidate for mayor of Himara, Mr. Fredi Beleri caused a lot of noise and highlighted some problems that have existed for a long time, but which only appear on special occasions. Regardless of who Beleri is and what he represents, the imprisonment of a candidate for political office a few days before the voting day always causes doubts and controversies, which the relevant institution that deals with the investigation and trial of criminal offenses has the duty to clarify and settle.

The first problem, clearly visible and just as suspicious, is the fact that what has pushed the party and Mr. As its leader, an individual who lacks the two main qualities to become a leader of power is running for Himara's first citizen. Mr. Bejleri lacks the appropriate cultural level and governing experience, because he is an individual with a high school education and no administrative management experience.

On the other hand, this person lacks the character qualities necessary for managing the affairs of a social community. An individual who has had serious problems with justice in Albania and Greece and for whom there was strong evidence of involvement in the Peshkepi massacre where two Albanian soldiers were killed and three others were wounded, should never have been a candidate for any political party but, especially, of a political force that claims to represent the Greek ethnic minority in Albania.

I am convinced that the Greek minority of Albania has wise and dignified men and women for whom citizens of Albanian nationality should not hesitate to vote, whether in minority or non-minority areas such as Himara. Personally, I would vote for a minority of any ethnicity even for President of RSH, if I was convinced of the sufficient culture and high moral integrity of the candidate.

The second major and very significant problem is how is it possible that Albania's main opposition political bloc allows itself to support and call for the vote for mayor of an individual like Beleri, who, in addition to what I said above, has been also a collaborator of Greek neo-fascist organizations such as MAVI or Golden Dawn, already outlawed in Greece. And, not only that, but a few weeks before the elections he claimed that the Albanians came from the distant Caucasus (the implication is clear: the Albanians came after the Greeks and the land belongs to the Greeks as the oldest in these areas) and that "My choice mayor is vital for the Hellenization of Himara, it will facilitate the flow of Hellenism... it is important for the coming decades and not only for today". Do the fiery "patriots and sovereignists" S. agree?

The third and very important problem is the official Greek reaction to the Beleri case, accusatory and threatening. Fortunately, both during the reigns of A. Zog and E. Hoxha, as well as after 1990, the treatment of national minorities in Albania has been not only non-discriminatory, but also favorable in relation to the majority of the Albanian population. If someone from the minority has suffered problems with property or criminal punishments for political reasons, this has come from the policies applied to any Albanian citizen regardless of ethnic affiliation and not because he belonged to one or the other ethnic group.

Unfortunately, our two main neighbors, Serbia and Greece, for almost two centuries have formulated and implemented nationalist, chauvinistic and criminal political doctrines against their neighboring peoples and, mainly, against the Albanian population. In the philosophy, morals and political behavior of the Albanians, there is nowhere to find any model similar to the Serbian Načertania or the Greek Megali Idhena.

The organized political and military programs and behaviors of the Albanians have always and everywhere aimed at the protection of their residential territories from the aims, plans and attacks of the politics and armies of the predatory neighbors, who have also made agreements between them for the dismemberment and devouring of full or partial Albanian spaces in the Balkans.

Because they had created their states before the Albanians and, consequently, political and strategic alliances with major European decision-making powers, powers that were drawn to our Slavic and Greek neighbors due to their common (Slavic) ancestry or geostrategic interests, the Serbs and the Greeks, not a few times, have found the support of these powers in their chauvinistic goals against Albania.

During the Hoxist period, but also later, when problems arose with Greece, Albanian politics, for diplomatic reasons, presented them to our people as "attitudes of Greek reactionary and monarcho-fascist circles" or as "behavior and actions of some extremists Greeks". However, the truth is different. Greek post-World War II governments, whether right-wing or left-wing, dictatorial or "democratic," have continued to maintain an absurd Martial Law since 1940 when the Italian fascist army, which had invaded Albania a year earlier forward, attacked Greece, having in its composition also several formations of Albanian mercenaries, most of whom quickly deserted from the war front. Even today, the Greek governments, with stale sophistry they claim that the abrogation of the Law of War is not necessary as long as we have a Friendship Treaty between Greece and Albania. Here some questions arise: If the abrogation is not necessary, why is it necessary to leave that law in force? Why doesn't Greece keep in force as many "laws of war" as there have been opposing sides in regional or world wars for 200 years now?! Should a country that still has a law of war with its neighbors be a member of the EU?!

Taking advantage of the bad economic situation and the unstable political situations in Albania, the Greek governments, repeatedly, in the form of prayers or threats, have asked the Albanian politics after 1990 to accept the construction of the cemeteries of the Greek soldiers who fell on the Albanian territory during the Second War World. The construction of a memorial cemetery or memorial would be normal, but asking for the "planting" of Greek cemeteries here and there in Albania, even where a Greek soldier has fallen (God knows if he fell while expelling the invaders of Greece or sticking the checkpoints of chauvinism outside the Greek territory) means that you do not have humane commemorative goals, but diabolical strategic goals.

While the Greek governments put pressure on Albania and complain to the European offices that the Greek minority in Albania is not being respected, or why a terrorist is killed with a machine gun in his hand in a fight with the police, or why a vote-buyer is jailed, they themselves have refused to sign the conventions international organizations for minorities, do not accept their existence in Greece and even oppose any request of the Albanian citizens of Chameria for the recognition and compensation of the properties in their homelands, within the territory of the Greek state.

While in Albania there has never been individual or collective enmity between ethnic minorities and the local population or between ethnic minorities and Albanian governments, Greek politics of the twentieth century recognizes documents and practices of hostile, exterminating and displacement state behavior (through expulsions and exchanges of populations on religious and ethnic grounds). Then, what moral, historical, political and democratic right does Greek politics have to hold others and especially Albania accountable in this field?!

Moving on to the Beleri case, the Greek official attitude and reaction creates the impression that this individual was Greece's proposed candidate to lead Himara, and not the candidate of some Albanian political forces. If the truth is like this, then we must conclude that today's Greek politics is a continuation of the implementation of the Megali Idea and Himara herself a victim of it. On the other hand, the selectors of such an individual for "facilitating the Hellenization" of the Albanian lands had to be a little wiser since such a "Trojan Horse" discredits them more than it serves them. Hasn't the time come for Greek politics to put its head back and see its "hump" and become an "elegant lady" of the Balkans and Europe?

The Greek Prime Minister Mr. Micotaqis and a couple of other ministers reacted to the Beleri case with the arrogance of the "strongest" and EU member, giving lectures on the rule of law, independent justice, etc. and threatening to prevent Albania's entry into the EU. After the European and American offices announced that the Greek ethnic minority was being discriminated in Albania (note: they identify an individual with the entire Greek minority and consider the criminal proceedings of a vote trafficker discrimination?!) they claimed that "Albania must know that this will affect in our bilateral relations, but also in Albania's path towards Europe. We will not tolerate such attitudes at the expense of our Greek minority" (Mitsotakis), and that "The arrest of Mr. Fredi Beleri is unacceptable" (Miltiadhis Varviciotis, deputy foreign minister of Greece).

A country that rightly arrested some of its citizens who were engaged in vote-trafficking in the Greek parliamentary elections, demands an account of why Albania did such an action against one of its citizens, who happens to be self-proclaimed Greek, for reasons spiritual or pocket. The arrest of a mayor in the North of Albania as soon as the election campaign started is considered normal, as it is in fact, while the detention of Beler during the campaign is declared ethnic discrimination. Greece, which, within the framework of the EU, asks Albania to build a "state of law" and "independent justice", that is, independent of the Albanian government and politics, wants to make Albanian justice dependent on Greek politics, ordering that "Albania has the obligation... to immediately release those it has imprisoned!".

Greek politics has made it fashionable to use the pretext of blocking Albania's EU membership in order to get away with any criminal act committed by members of the Greek minority in Albania and to avoid them from criminal responsibility. . If the European Union, the most ridiculous federal political creature of modern times, where in foreign, defense, but also economic policies, one hits the nail and the other the horseshoe, a political union of states with history, traditions, spiritual and national constitution and, not infrequently quite different interests, will continue to propagate democracy as a system of national government of parliamentary majorities and, in turn, will condition the admissions of other states within it on the vote against of a single state, then it is likely that,

If the EU agrees to advance accession talks with countries such as Serbia, which foresees in its Constitution the annexation of other independent countries (Kosovo), or to have as its members countries such as Greece that maintains laws of war with its neighbors, then this community of states will not have a bright and peaceful future. As for Albania, Albanians should accept that it is better to have Albania, even outside the EU, than to have Albanians inside the EU, but without Albania equal to other countries. Those states that are members of the EU and use this fact for false propaganda and as a means of pressure against their neighbors and, on the other hand, behave as they did a century ago, are paying homage to the "post-EU" period. However,
