Austria, friend of Albania

Dear friends,
Not long ago, I did not imagine myself that one day, I would stand on this podium talking about such an important event not only for Albania, but for the entire Albanian nation.
But, as you know, since June of this year, I have been the ambassador of Albania in Vienna.
This honorable and at the same time wonderful task has inspired me deeply and I have devoted myself to it with all my heart and full of enthusiasm as never before. Perhaps, because this is related to the meaningful fact that I am fulfilling this mission in a country that has historically been a friend and supporter of my homeland. Precisely for this reason, Ismail Qemali, before declaring independence on November 28, 1912 in Vlora, came here to Vienna to seek support - and this support was generously given to him.
But this help was not limited to the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Even the Republic of Austria has stood by Albania in other historical moments.
After the fall of communism in Albania, the connection between Vienna and Tirana became even closer. Since that moment, Austria has supported our country in many ways. Currently, there are almost 100 Austrian companies operating in Albania, including Raiffeisen Bank, Porsche, Unica Group Austria, Vienna Insurance Group, EVN, Verbund, LF Construction, Strabag, Rogner Hotel, etc.
Austria's official support for Albania's European dream remains particularly important.
I am pleased to remind you that Albania has opened the first Cluster, especially chapters 23 and 24. I want to take this opportunity to thank Austria for its support in the reform of justice, which is essential for the whole integration process. Albania's goal is to be ready for EU membership by 2030.
But I am more convinced that after the end of this transformative process, Albania will be a capable member of the European Union and a reliable partner of it because it carries and shares common European values.
Likewise, I am even more certain that Albania, in this long and challenging journey towards Brussels, as in the past, will have the support of Austria.
Ladies and gentlemen,
We must not forget the large Albanian community in Austria. After the fall of the communist system, the first immigrants found here hospitality, love and care. They built their families, started a new life, learned from you - and combined with them the highest civic values ??they brought with them from their homeland.
I am proud of the first generation that came in the 1990s, and even more of the second generation that was born here. Although they already hold Austrian citizenship, they carry the best values ??of both our countries. Also, it fills me with pride when I see and hear that Albanian students studying in Austrian universities achieve excellent results.
As I mentioned at the beginning, the declaration of independence of Albania took place in Vlora, a historical and very beautiful city. I also come from Vlora and, to enrich this celebration here in Vienna, I have invited Ermal Dredha - the mayor of my city who, to present you the charm and tradition, has prepared a program that combines tourism and folklore. In particular, I would like to thank him for fulfilling one of my requests: to bring to Vienna one of the best polyphonic music groups in the country, the group "?ipini - Krenaria e Kombit" directed by Tomorr Lelo.
