The visitors' summer vacation would not have had the same fate if the hotel administrator had invested in a technical fire protection project. 

The head of the Union of Engineers, Dëshira Mëna, claims that if the hotel had a functional fire system, then all the vacationers would have left the hotel in time without being harmed.

"The fire protection system is the most important system in every facility and in every building. This system must function in the project, in implementation and then the third phase, which is more important than the first two phases, is the maintenance and service provided to these systems. These are the three links that prevent all these events that occur later," said Dëshira Mëna, president of the Union of Engineers.

The life-saving technical project, according to the engineer, failed this time too, as ISHTI inspectors did not enforce the law.

"The fact that they say it happened because of a three-pronged socket means that the automatic switch that cut off the power did not work. And the second thing is that the detector did not work, this is the spy and the warning device, and the fax that did not work means that there was no one. Who controls these systems? The one who checks them every time and has the duty is the IST", says Mëna.

It is not the first time that fire prevention systems have failed, the repetition of such events shows builders are bypassing safety measures to reduce costs.

On Sunday morning, 7 people were injured in a fire that engulfed the first floor of the hotel they chose to stay at in the city of Vlora./TCH
