One of Jani Aliaj's main activities was the cultivation and trafficking of cannabis. It is believed that this activity put him on the path of conflicts between groups. One of the episodes that has come to light is related to the attempted robbery of 100 kilograms of cannabis in Frashër, an operation that demonstrated his ability to organize, plan and execute dangerous actions.

The incident, recorded in the indictment and pursued by the prosecution, showed that Aliaj could manipulate people, situations, and violence to achieve his objectives, from drug robberies to clashes that would result in murder and injury.

"He participated in the disappearance of quantities of narcotics that Albanian gangs distributed in Athens and did not pay them, it is suspected that he misused his connections to benefit outside the framework of the gangs in which he operated," said journalist Artur Bibe.

"As previously reported, these were a large social group, they are people who know each other well, they are from the same place, they are approximately the same age and they also had previous acquaintances and previous collaborations," said lawyer Indrit Sefa.

A clash between rival cannabis trafficking groups led to an armed clash between them in the village of Vreçisht in Frashëri, where an attempted robbery of 100 kilograms of narcotics was carried out.

According to the Prosecution's indictment, the defendants Jani Aliaj, Enea Koçia, Mario Ndreu, Stefan Gjoka, Roland Pata, and Altin Merdani were involved in this incident.

The investigative file explains that the incident began late at night, when Koçia and Merdani, after arguing with the other defendants at a gas station in Gjirokastra, headed towards the scene of the fight.

"After organizing themselves with three vehicles and arming themselves with combat weapons, they headed towards the village of Frashër with the aim of robbing 100 kg of narcotics that were being transported by the brothers Ilirjan, Fatri and Gazmor Ibro."

According to the same document, the criminal group had planned the robbery at a place called "Gostomicka Hangar", where they encountered five people who were transporting the drugs on mules.

"As the five citizens who were transporting the narcotics on mules approached, they were called to stop at a distance of 5-10 meters from the two vehicles. The armed individuals opened fire with three different weapons, two automatic rifles and a pistol, in the direction of Gazmor Ibro. One of the shells hit Gazmor Ibro in the back, seriously endangering his life."

This incident reveals the brutality of the operation of Jani Aliaj's group. After the exchange of fire, the robbers took all the narcotics and fled in three vehicles. One of the vehicles, the one with the license plate "AA 122 JC", got stuck due to a defect.

"Jani Aliaj was a pretty important character, in his group that he represented, he was not only in the role of the executor but he was in a pretty decision-making role, with authority within the group, because of his past, he imposed fear on opponents," said lawyer Gjergj Nikolla.

"Jani Aliaj is remembered as a person who had no friends, he sold them out very easily, so he created enmity and distanced himself from the people who were very close to him, and he distanced himself from those who were his closest people, which were the drug trafficking groups in the Lazarat-Tepelena area, who were well-known people from the same province, they knew each other," said Artur Bibe, journalist.

The prosecution's actions led to the arrest in flagrante delicto of Roland Pata, while several other members went into hiding and became inaccessible to the authorities.

"Pajtim Shyti has kept in touch and talked with Ahmet Skenderaj about police movements, while the latter has informed Zaim Ibron, Ilirjan Ibron and Fatri Ibron about every police action at the scene."

For this event, Jani Aliaj was sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Përmet court. But the Court of Appeal declared incompetence for the file, after raising the criminal group charge. This was the moment that elevated Aliaj to high levels of crime. He became a shadow man who knew how to evade justice.

"My impression is that the police authorities, the prosecution at that time, as there were no consequences for people, were not interested in bringing these characters to justice, taking into account the influence they had on the local police in Gjirokastra but also in Tirana," said Xhevahir Zhabina, a journalist.

The Neapolitan code of the 'Aliaj-Çiça' clash, the groups that 'atoned' the blood of their comrades...

The bloody clash between the Tepelena groups led by Elton Çiço and Jani Aliaj began two decades before the latter was executed. A conflict between two individuals turned into a spiral of assassinations that would involve two groups, two countries, and several cities.

It all starts in Western Attica, Greece. A 20-year-old, E. Ballazhiu, originally from the Memaliaj region, is stabbed to death. The perpetrator was Jani Aliaj. The victim was a childhood friend of Elton Çiçës. They had grown up together in Tepelena, in the same neighborhood, with the same social and family ties.

"It's one of those stories that is worth discussing, but it seems that there is a different development from what we are usually used to, where in other stories we see that in some way the blood of a murdered person is taken from people close to him, a cousin, while in this story between Jani Aliaj and Elton Çiço the blood is taken from a friend", said Xhevahir Zhabina, journalist.

"This has created the fact that we have a high number of victims and the never-ending nature of these conflicts, which are very violent conflicts, have led to serious criminal offenses, and have also led to numerous murders," said Indrit Sefa, a lawyer.

The murder was not perceived as an isolated act, but as a personal wound. When Çiça learns who the perpetrator was, his reaction does not remain silent. He sends words to the prison. A direct message: this murder would not remain unanswered.

At that time, Alia had been arrested and was in custody in Greece. The conflict, before it had even physically materialized between them, had taken the form of a promise of revenge.

About three years later, fate places them both in the same institution: Koridhalo Prison, where "Jack" would end up.

Alia already sentenced to 18 years in prison for murder. Çiça to 5 years for drugs. Two men from the same city, with an open blood feud, are separated only by the walls of a high-security prison.

The first physical confrontation occurs in the airing. Çiça stabs Alina, who manages to survive. The conflict had gone from warning to direct bloodshed. But even this episode did not close the cycle.

"In Albania, it has been proven in many cases that some criminal stories never end. They have continued for years, for decades. Unfortunately, in our society these phenomena exist, there is a sense of revenge, and it is an inherited story, it is an inherited feeling," said Indrit Sefa, lawyer.

Some time after this event, Alia is granted leave after serving about 10 years of his sentence. He leaves prison and never returns. He is declared wanted by the Greek authorities. Çiça, on the other hand, completes his sentence and is released. Both are now out.

And when two enemies with a history of blood are released, the clash is not extinguished, it is displaced.

From that moment on, revenge erupted on several fronts: Gjirokastër, Tirana, Durrës, Fier. Assassinations carried out, failed attempts, people killed and wounded who were not always the direct target, but part of the circle. For a decade, this saga is estimated to have produced four victims, five wounded and several assassinations that remained in attempt.

"The information was that a clash between the groups would be very bloody, as both groups had a lot of people, were quite powerful economically, and their revenge would be very bloody," said lawyer Gjergj Nikolla.

Before the bullets found Elton Çiçë in Tirana, there had been two clear attempts to eliminate Jani Alina. Two episodes that, taken separately, might seem like sporadic clashes. But, placed in the same chronological line, they resemble warnings of an approaching end.

The murder that 'set fire' to several cities, Jani addressed Elton by name, the untold story of Çiçë's elimination in the middle of the Block

"One of the reasons there was such a great commitment was because the information was such that revenge would continue very harshly against the two groups. Precisely to highlight this, a commitment was made to this event, which was taken very seriously by both the Tirana Police Directorate and the prosecution until it was documented with legal evidence," said lawyer Gjergji Nikolli.

Investigators followed every trace, every movement of the vehicle that had transported the perpetrator. Security cameras identified the car in which Aliaj left after the incident, which turned out to be a vehicle purchased only three days before the incident. A choice that spoke of planning and dedication to detail. The car was purchased in the name of Renato Milloshi, who was convicted only for failing to report the crime.

He stated before investigators that Aliaj had asked him to register the vehicle in his name, claiming that it was located in Tepelena.

"According to the statements, he could not take the vehicle in his name, since he had his residence in the city of Tepelena. Feeling indebted because of the respect that the defendant Jani Aliaj had shown him, Renato had agreed to buy the vehicle in his name and for this they had left him to meet with the notary Sh. Gj., to carry out the actions."

"I consider these to be serious criminal offenses that result from a group's determination to dominate another, to dominate another, or to secure themselves, or to secure their lives from opponents. Given that this fear is greater than the need for revenge, or to oppose, or to kill because of a previous conflict, I think this brings the greatest victims," said lawyer Indrit Sefa.

Further details of the file revealed a careful scheme to cover up the tracks. The witness with the initials KA, the car salesman, recounts the scene that today looks like a movie scene:

"After we went to the notary, a guy came with a hat that was pulled down to his nose and only his mouth was visible... They took the car and went to get the license plates..."

An important piece of evidence for the authorship of the murder was provided by the vehicle seller, who gave investigators the phone number he had used to communicate about the sale of the vehicle, which turned out to be used by Jani Aliaj.

“From the analysis of the telephone number tables … it resulted that the number was in use by the defendant Jani Alia … and the location cell antenna resulted in the area of the road … in the direction of the scene.”
