GJKKO has sentenced the former bodyguard of the former Albanian Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri to 13 years in prison. Hekuran Marku, taking advantage of the shortened trial, will serve 8 years and 8 months in prison.

Hekuran Marku accused of international drug trafficking within the structured criminal group. Mark was extradited from Germany to Albania following the request of the Special Prosecutor's Office. His name appeared in the international operation coded "Spirit".

As a result of this operation, businessmen, prosecutors and high officials of the State Police, accused of participating in criminal drug activities, were placed in handcuffs.

Extradition

Hekuran Marku, the former bodyguard of the Minister of Interior Saimir Tahiri, has been extradited from Germany to Albania seven months after his arrest. Mark was put in handcuffs in August 2021. Mark was part of Saimir Tahir's escort group, when the latter was Minister of the Interior, in the years 2014-2016.

During this period, according to the SPAK file, Marku is accused of having, in cooperation with 4 Italians and an Albanian, the latter known as Eltjon Bregu, trafficked about 1 ton of cannabis to Italy together with his colleague, Agustin Deda.

Drugs were seized from two arrested in Bari, Fiqiret Seferi and Ferhat Ajdini. SPAK suspects that Deda and Marku cultivated drugs with Bregu and tried to traffic them in order to deliver them to the four Italians. It was the testimony of 4 repentant justices who agreed to cooperate with the prosecution by confessing about drug trafficking from Albania to Italy.

They have provided information for 3 years, after which SPAK, in cooperation with the Italian Antimafia, Eurojust and DIA, have managed to document the criminal activity of 4 groups that trafficked drugs from Albania to Italy and Spain through operation "Spirit".
