Police arrested an Italian citizen residing in the Naples area, against whom an arrest request for extradition was pending from Albanian judicial authorities.
The operation was carried out by officers from the Office of the Commissioner of Public Safety of the Fund, as part of checks on individuals present in accommodation facilities.
The 34-year-old's presence was detected through an alarm linked to the hotel's customer checks. The report reached the Operations Room and prompted police intervention.
The officers immediately arrived at the indicated hotel and confirmed the actual presence of the wanted person. The wanted person was then escorted to the Police Station offices for the usual checks.
Verifications were carried out at the police stations on the documentation present in the Interpol database. Further investigations confirmed the validity of the restrictive measure issued by the Albanian judicial authorities and Interpol Tirana and his extradition is awaited.
According to Albanian judicial authorities, the 34-year-old is accused of tax evasion worth approximately 150,000 euros in connection with his business activities in Albania.
He ran a shoe factory. For these facts, a precautionary measure was issued against him to be executed in Albania, as part of a criminal process that is still pending, Italian media reports.
After his arrest, he was taken to Latina prison. He now remains at the disposal of the Court of Appeal competent for extradition proceedings.
The court will have to enforce the order within 96 hours and decide on the extradition request made by the Albanian authorities.
