US formalizes $302 million loan for Albania

The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has formalized the agreement for a direct loan of $302 million to Albania, within the framework of the Foreign Military Financing (FMF) program.

According to the DSCA announcement, the funding aims to support the modernization of the Albanian Armed Forces and increase the country's capacities to contribute to NATO's collective security.

The agreement was made in cooperation with the US Department of State. According to US authorities, the loan will provide Albania with low-cost financing and flexible terms for the development of defense capabilities.

The funds will be used for equipment and services produced by the American defense industry, also aiming to increase the interoperability of the Albanian Armed Forces with those of NATO allies.

After the publication of the agreement, the Minister of Defense, Ermal Nufi, also reacted, describing the funding as another indicator of the US's trust in Albania.

"This is more than funding. It is trust, strategic partnership and investment in the security of the future," Nufi declared.

According to the minister, the $302 million loan will help modernize the Armed Forces and increase Albania's contribution to NATO's collective security.
