The Albanian Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Uran Ferizi, has reportedly filed an official complaint with the Media Regulator in England, regarding a report by the well-known media outlet "Sky News".
According to him, the reportage that raises prejudices about the Albanian community in England is biased and irresponsible, so our diplomat Uran Ferizi initially addressed the television and then put the Media Regulator in motion.
"Following Sky News' biased and irresponsible reportage on August 6-7, about Albanians and the communication developed with the executives of this channel, today the Albanian Embassy in London filed an official complaint with Ofcom, the British media regulatory authority.
The complaint raises serious concerns about inaccuracies, lack of context and unjustified generalizations, which link Albanian identity with criminality and, instead of informing responsibly, present and reinforce ethnic stereotypes against Albanians.
"Freedom of the media is fundamental. Equally fundamental is the obligation for it to be accurate and not to foster prejudice against an entire community for the actions of a few individuals," the Albanian Embassy in England said in a statement.
In the complaint that Ambassador Uran Ferizi first sent to the television station, he points out that while criminal activity is clearly a legitimate topic for journalism, the overall wording of this report consistently links Albanians as a nationality to organized crime, people smuggling, and the drug trade in the United Kingdom.
He adds that the reportage entitled "It's Nothing, Brother": Albanian Smugglers Taunt UK Borders to Boost Drug Trade" (published around August 6, 2026), risks reinforcing the harmful stereotype that criminality is somehow characteristic of Albanians, rather than the actions of a small number of individuals.
"Responsible reporting must clearly distinguish between criminal networks and an entire national community. The vast majority of Albanians living in the United Kingdom are law-abiding residents and contribute positively to British society. Coverage that fails to make this distinction contributes to bias and undermines fair and accurate reporting," the Albanian diplomat's complaint continues.
