The suspension of immigration visas to the US is expected to affect a significant number of Albanian citizens.
But why is Albania included in the list of 75 countries? This was the question Top Channel asked DASH.
A State Department spokesperson in the response provided indicates the reason for this decision.
"The State Department will suspend the processing of immigrant visas for 75 countries whose immigrants receive social assistance from the American people at unacceptable levels. This suspension will remain in effect until the United States is satisfied that new immigrants will not extract wealth from the American people," was the State Department's response to TCH.
Two weeks ago, through his " Truth Social " network, President Trump published the list of foreign nationalities who are paid social assistance from American public funds.
According to this list, 41.3% of Albanians living in the US as immigrants, beneficiaries of lottery programs, and their family members who immigrated to the United States through family reunification are beneficiaries of social assistance from American states.
In a recent announcement from the State Department, it is announced that tourist visas, business visas and student visas are not suspended but will continue to be issued./ tch
