Rama among children in Oncology: Larger budget for health and new investments
Edi Rama

Prime Minister Edi Rama was this Wednesday at the "Mother Teresa" University Hospital Center, where he stopped at the Oncology Service to meet children who are spending the end-of-year holidays under medical care.

During the visit, the head of government also held a meeting with doctors, nurses, emergency medical teams and specialist doctors, as part of the year-end balance sheet for the health sector.

In his speech, Rama praised the dedication and sacrifice of healthcare personnel, emphasizing that their service is vital to society.

He emphasized that each year the health system performs around 60 thousand successful operations and over 35 thousand surgical interventions, an indicator, according to him, of the hard work of doctors and support staff.

"Our health service performs around 60,000 successful operations per year and 35,000 surgical interventions... it is the tireless work of doctors. When activities that tarnish the high-profile shirt are identified, the cost of reputation is very high. But at the end of the day, for all those who know what it means to serve and those who receive service, the positive side is what dominates," added Prime Minister Rama.

50 million euros more for Health in 2026

Regarding next year, Rama announced that the health budget will increase by around 50 million euros compared to this year. He emphasized that 15 million euros have been added for oncology drugs alone, while a similar fund is expected to be added to drug reimbursement in the middle of next year.

"As for the coming year, we have some positive things for the health sector, which has received 50 million euros more than this year. It is not a small amount for our budget. It has received an extra 15 million lek just for oncology drugs, and another 15 million will be added in the middle of next year, for the reimbursement of drugs, " said Rama.

According to the Prime Minister, these investments also aim to distribute the heavy workload faced by the Tirana Oncology Department, through the networking of services in regional hospitals.

Rama also announced the ambition to establish a National Cancer Institute and create a national network for the treatment of the disease, emphasizing that cancer remains an increasingly large problem, not only for Albania, but also on a global scale.
