"Rama and Berisha have held us hostage for 35 years" - Luçiana Koka, who became the icon of the protests in Rrjoll: We have disturbed their sleep

From the protest in Tirana, the iconic resident of Rrjoll resistance and one of the organizers of the protest, Luçiana Kokaj, stated that the protests have disturbed the sleep of Prime Minister Edi Rama and the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha. 

"They told us there are 2,000 of us, but I can't count you, but you don't look like 2,000 to me, much more than 2,000, much more than 20,000. All Albanian youth are in the square tonight."

"We are sorry that they have disturbed the sleep of the prime minister as the one who claims to lead the opposition, that they have taken our country hostage for 35 years," she said. 

Further, she stated that today the lands of the residents of Rrolli are surrounded with barbed wire for the construction of resorts and to shift attention from the mass protests towards Rrolli.

"They claim that we will focus on that and lose sight of what has united us, the departure of this government. Rrjolli will be saved when this government leaves!", she said, among other things.

Luciana Kokaj:

As you know, these protests have been going on for many years, starting as property and environmental issues, but the good thing about this protest is that all Albanians have come together to save Albania from the mafia, from the state captured by the mafia, and from all the injustices we have been living with for years. 

From all those injustices where many of our peers no longer live in Albania because here they have not found the opportunity of meritocracy to develop their professions and to have a dignified life. Therefore, we are stronger than ever to make Albania a country to live with dignity in. We are here without political parties and calls "Rama in prison, Berisha in prison".

We have been disturbing your sleep badly these days, but the quality of our lives is more important than the sleep of those who have usurped every link in this country. Therefore, we must be stronger and stronger.

Today is the day to not retreat from the square without those who have held us hostage for 35 years. Rrjolli is the reason why we have been protesting every day for four months.

They tell us that we are against development, Rrjolli is not against this, but against the plunder of property. For all environmentalists, it is clear that Rrjolli is a protected area, it is one of the most important ecological corridors of the EU and therefore this is a call for the EU to turn its eyes to Rrjolli.

That resort that is being built there and others will block the ecological channels of many birds… I have bad news today, that yesterday the residents woke up to their land surrounded by barbed wire and we know why they are doing it, because they claim that we will focus on that and lose attention from what has united us, the departure of this government. Rrjolli will be saved when this government leaves!
