The Albanian government has approved an additional fund of 40 million lek to support elite athletes, doubling the fund foreseen for awards during 2026.

The news was announced by the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports Blendi Gonxhja, who stressed that the new measures aim to increase financial support for Albanian athletes and coaches, as part of the 32% increase in the state budget for sports, the highest level of funding in years.

"The Albanian Government continues to invest in Albanian sports, turning support for athletes into a concrete priority. With the latest normative act, a fund of 40 million lek has been added for elite athletes, strengthening the reward system for those who raise the Albanian flag in the international arena.

Practically doubling the fund foreseen for awards for 2026. More support for non-Olympic sports and Albanian coaches. Increase in daily food allowance for athletes.

Higher rewards for results in the Olympic Games, World, European, Mediterranean and Balkan Championships. More favorable scheme for sports with several disciplines. 

These measures are part of a broader commitment, where the state budget for sports in 2026 increases by 32%, the highest level of financial support in years.
