Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf

Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, the speaker of the Iranian parliament, has threatened that if the United States decides to intervene in Iran in support of the protesters, steps will be taken that endanger peace in the region.

He has suggested that in such a scenario, Iran would attack Israel and US bases in the region.
Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf spoke to MPs this morning and his threats came as MPs in Parliament chanted: “Death to America!”

Iran's leaders have previously blamed Washington for the protests.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader, said on Friday that protesters were "destroying their own streets to please the president of another country."

US President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly threatened intervention in recent days, wrote on social media on Saturday: "Iran is seeing freedom, perhaps like never before. The US is ready to help!!!"
