Venezuelan deputy Nicolas Maduro Guerra has announced that he has received a message from his father, acting president Nicolás Maduro, through his legal team.
According to him, Maduro is in good health and remains steadfast, despite being held by US authorities.
He told leaders of the Venezuelan Socialist Party that lawyers had confirmed to him that Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were strong and that the family and supporters should not be sad. He relayed his father's words: "We are fine. I am a fighter."
Maduro and Flores were arrested in the United States following a U.S. military operation in Venezuela on January 3, in which American forces launched major raids in Caracas and other areas, and took control of the country's leaders. The operation led to their transfer to New York, where they have appeared in a U.S. court on serious charges, including conspiracy to commit drug trafficking and terrorism, to which they have pleaded not guilty.
Nicolas Maduro Guerra called for everyone to remain united regardless of the circumstances.
